She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, David and Robert, and her sister Louise.
Sandra exhibited the genuine spirit of a hardworking Mainer, having many vocations over the course of her lifetime. She worked as a nurse, real estate agent, and tax assessor before discovering her true calling in social work as a fierce and tireless advocate for the developmentally disabled. She touched many lives through her years of helping families obtain needed services and by performing wedding ceremonies as a justice of the peace. She devoted decades of passionate service to the Maine Special Olympics as a volunteer, coach, and aquatic program director, and spent the last several years in a clinical teaching role for the Michael Phelps Foundation.
Her husband Chris was the love of her life, and her grandchildren were her light. On any given weekend she could be found camping and fishing in remote spots around Maine, making smores around the fire, working barefoot in her gardens, or snuggled up with her grandchildren with popcorn and a movie. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her bright smile, kind words, and huge hugs.
