ETNA — Orchards around the state will celebrate Maine Apple Sunday this weekend.
The annual event kicks off the peak harvest season.
To celebrate, many orchards are offering special activities and free samples of their products this Sunday.
Some growers were worried about their crops during the early stages of the season when Maine was not getting enough rain. However, recent rainfall has provided relief for many.
“It was a little dry in the beginning,” said Danielle Parsons, owner of Conant Apple Orchards in Etna. “We were a little worried but the rain came through for us and we have a beautiful crop. The apples are sizing up, all kinds of apples on the trees.”
